Seal of Civic Engagement
CA State Seal of Civic Engagement
The California State Seal of Civic Engagement (SSCE) is an official recognition awarded by the California Department of Education to students who demonstrate a strong understanding of civic knowledge, skills, and values, and who actively participate in their schools and communities to make a positive difference. The seal highlights students’ commitment to being informed, engaged, and responsible citizens by recognizing efforts such as volunteering, taking leadership roles, participating in civic projects, and promoting equity and inclusion. By earning the SSCE, students show that they are not only academically prepared but also ready to contribute meaningfully to society, embodying the principles of civic responsibility and lifelong participation in democracy.
*Students and families may also contact their school counselor with questions about the State Seal of Civic Engagement.
